Goldman Sachs Hires First ‘Cryptocurrency Markets Unit’ Employee
Goldman Sachs has been entertaining the idea of a cryptocurrency-related function within the company for some time. In December of 2017, Goldman Sachs began clearing CME and Cboe Bitcoin futures for clients. Now, it seems that Goldman Sachs is taking another step into the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
According to Tearsheet, Wall Street banking giant Goldman Sachs hired Justin Schmidt to head the first digital asset markets within the company’s securities division. Schmidt – former senior vice president at Seven Eight Capital – began his role on Monday, April 16th.
According to Goldman Sachs spokeswoman Tiffany Galvin-Cohen, “in response to client interest in various digital products, we are exploring how best to serve them in the space.” Galvin-Cohen continued on to say, “at this point, we have not reached a conclusion on the scope of our digital asset offering.”
