Facebook Appoints Director Of Engineering, Blockchain
Social media giant Facebook has taken another step into the blockchain revolution. In a recent executive reshuffle, Facebook has appointed a new blockchain lead, further signifying that the company is getting serious about the tech.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Evan Cheng – a director of engineering at Facebook – has moved into the position of Director of Engineering, Blockchain. Techcrunch confirmed Cheng’s new position today.
In May, Facebook transitioned senior executives from Messenger, WhatsApp and the core Facebook app to head up blockchain at the company. Messenger chief David Marcus heads up the group, whose mission is to explore blockchain use cases.
Facebook banned all crypto-related advertisements from their platform in January. The ban went into effect in late June; however, the company has since revised its position on the subject, allowing vetted crypto advertisements to be posted on the site.
